Apartment Review for The Harbor Apartments - Daytona Beach, FL

Before I get to the drawbacks, let me say that this complex has a lot going for it. In fact, I really liked living here- most of the time. The complex is very attractive: it's themed, landscaped, and has small lakes with fountains. The well-kept pool area overlooks a lake. In addition, management was always friendly and helpful. Maintenance was GREAT. Got a problem? Basil will come and fix it within 24 hours. I never once had a roach, either, which is pretty amazing for Florida. We did have a carpenter ant from time to time, but only one at a time and only rarely. Parking was fine for us since we had only one car. We parked right in front of the building. Now, for the drawbacks: 1. Noise level. We couldn't hear much from next door, but upstairs was another story. Let's just say if the neighbors were having a really good time or a really bad time, you heard every bit of it. Also, a number of residents and/or visitors like to play their bass music from their cars LOUD. Not good if you have a light-sleeping child! 2. Safety. This is a difficult one to describe. Nothing bad ever happened to us, nor did we directly see criminal activity going on, but I'm pretty sure there are a number of shady activities going on here. It got to where I didn't want to go on walks around the complex anymore because certain groups of young men would stare as I went past as if to determine whether I was watching what they were up to. No, they weren't "checking me out." I'm not sure if it was drug deals or what, but there was too much traffic and weird behavior to be normal. I think most people could live with the noise level. I think that if the management were able to get rid of the shady tenants, this complex would rate 5 stars.
